Scouts in the Philippines gave out rosaries to frontliners

Scouts from the Boy Scouts of the Philippines (BSP) Bacolod City Council, Agila Bacolod, and NESAPh Papa Isio Chapter No. 6 went around Metro Bacolod giving out rosaries to the frontliners in the COVID-19 pandemic as part of their project, FaithFull - Proyekto Pagtuo.

The Scouts have emphasized that frontliners are not only limited to medical personnel but also to the people working to provide essential goods and maintain the transactions that people need, thus, these frontliners include street vendors, security guards, traffice enforcers, cashiers, and the like.

For Catholics, the rosary beads is an instrument and a guide for praying the rosary, but is also a sign of hope for the people for a new and better tomorrow and peace for the whole world.

The rationale of the activity according to Eagle Scout John Dyrick Dormis was to; "spread hope to other people that despite the pandemic we must not neglect our spiritual wellness and our duty to maintain peace and justice to our community and country".

The response from the people are very positive as there are even some that approached the Scouts to ask for the rosaries.

It is also worth noticing that the rosaries that they have given are World Mission Rosaries that have five significant colors which represent five continents.

The green represents the forests and grasslands of Africa; the red signifies rhe calling to mind the fire of faith that brought missionaries to the Americas; the white symbolizes Europe, the home of the Holy Father; the blue is for the ocean surrounding the Islands of the Pacific; and the yellow symbolizes the morning light of the East and "beginning of civilization" for Asia/Middle East.

The rosaries that the Scouts have given out are from the Marian Missionaries of the Holy Cross (MMHC) in Silay City, Negros Occidental.

FaithFull - Proyekto Pagtuo is a recipient of the Dialogue for Peace fund of the World Organization of the Scout Movement (WOSM) and the King Abdullah bin Abdulaziz International Centre for Interreligious and Intercultural Dialogue (KAICIID).

Eagle Scout Dormis, together with Eagle Scout Reign Josef Basilio, assured that proper safety protocols were observed during the said activity.
