"Scouts of Bhutan" : "Losing ourselves in the service of others"
What maybe so intricate for some people, wasn’t at all for the awe- inspired Scouts of Bhutan. 20 Rovers and Community based Scouts (CBS) did the most inspiring thing for a month long religious festival at the memorial Temple, located in the heart of Thimphu City. They invited the elderly people, senior citizens and people with disability to attend a blessing organized by the City Council. Everyday, the rovers and CBS literally carried people with disability, cooked for them and fed them. Besides, the normal chores that they carried out, they also ensured that these people secure the best seats for the religious festival.
Above and all made the lives of these people very pleasing and gratifying.
Norman Vincent Peale correctly said this, “When you become detached mentally from yourself and concentrate on helping other people with their difficulties, you will be able to cope with your own more effectively. Somehow, the act of self-giving is a personal power-releasing factor”.
Besides offering their services in creating a better world for everyone, the rovers and CBS did take away a lot of values and lessons. It was also a moment of personal progression for the team. The Rovers and CBS contributed more than 8 hours daily in the service of others. A month long program ended on 4th September and it was quite a memorable experience for everyone involved.
