SCOUTS AWARENESS CAMPAIGN WALK ON GBV IN MOMBASA.
My motivation to take up the project on doing an awareness campaign is the rising concern of our community members not having an indepth understanding of what Gender based violence is and how it affects us as a society.Having an awareness walk where the locals joined in gave us a platform to interact on a personal basis and expound on such matters.
The project was executed through an awareness campaign walk which took place on the 17th of April 2025 in the streets of Mombasa.
During the walk a lot of activities were done including having conversations with the local residents of Mombasa and getting to educate ourselves on issues of GBV. We also had a hand paint out time after the walk, where we used paint on our hands put on fabric to illustrate our United urge to end GBV. We had 266 members participating in the walk.
Throughout the project I learnt of how many people lack the clear understanding of what GBV is and how it is manifested, and this motivates me in later implementation of the project to provide fliers with educational information of GBV. Additionally I learnt that the society is eager to know more about this societal problem and are willing to fight against it which was so encouraging from the engagements we had.
