Scouts Australia ACT Support of the Canberra Special Childrens Christmas Party 2018
Across two days, Scouts, Venturers and Leaders supported the Canberra Special Children's Christmas Party for 2018. This is a special event run by a dedicated charity. They run parties to provide gifts, food and entertainment at the start of the Holiday season to 1500 Socio-economically disadvantaged, physically and learning-disabled children, plus their parents, carers and siblings.
On day one, Venturers, one Scout and several Leaders unpacked toys, set up Santa's Grotto, decorated Christmas trees, unpacked and set up signs and gazebos, unloaded furniture from a semi-trailer, set out tables and chairs, packed away recycling and rubbish, unloaded food and drink into freezers, and ended the day helping the ladies of the Country Women's Association make and pack 500 sandwiches.
On day two, the Party Day, Venturers and Leaders managed the parking and traffic flow from 7:30am-12pm, dealing with heavy traffic from congested local roads. Scouts, Venturers and Leaders sang on stage, served food, helped with face painting, did regular rubbish patrols and helped lost children find their parents. Then we helped pack down, re-load pallets of toys going to the next party, collected loose balloons and deconstructed the fairy-floss and snow-cone machines. We also cleaned away all the rubbish and recycling materials.
