Scouts Against Drug Abuse

Scouts Against Drug Abuse

The Northern Regional Scout Council in collaboration with the Yendi Municipal Assembly, the Ghana Health Service, the regent of Dagbon and other traditional rulers launched the "Scouts Against Drug Abuse" project in Yendi.

The objective of the project was to discourage the use of hard drugs, educate the youth on the effects of hard drugs, prevent addiction to tramadol and other un-prescribed drugs, encourage the youth to adopt healthy lifestyles in and out of school.  It also aimed to reach out to at least 40,000 young people on drug abuse awareness in the Northern region targeting Senior high school in each district, youth groups and the general public.

The launch was a day’s program geared towards creating awareness about this campaign against drug abuse. It started in the morning with a street float, where over 100 scouts and members of other youth groups hit the Yendi streets with ply cards bearing stop drug abuse statements. They also educated the youth on the street about the dangers of drug abuse.

The launch was done later in the day at a durbar outside the Yendi Community Centre with a turnout of over 200 people from the Yendi Township.
