Part A: We visited Airport Fire Rescue Service (AFRS). The knowledge and experience gained: a. Functions of AFRS b. Strength of AFRS in Penang Airport c. Penang International Airport Index d. Functions of Airport Crash Tender. e. Experiences on sitting Airport Crash Tender & water cannons shooting f. personal protective equipment for fire fighting g. AFRS Control tower for monitoring aeroplane takes off & landing. h. Fire alarm testing Part B: We visited main building of Penang International Airport. We had an escorted tour by 2 airport staffs and 1 airport police officer to following area: a. Information counter about flight info b. Check-in counters (FYI, only AirAsia & MAS have permanent counters, the rest are share among different airlines) c. Customs clearance d. Departure & arrival gates (both domestic & international) e. Quarantine rooms f. International arrival g. Luggage pick-up Airport is a place where I used to take flights for uncountable business trips. It is ordinary for me as working adult, yet it could a place where totally fresh and interesting for our children. From this adventure, our scouts had the chance to get first exposure/experience about airport operation, and these could be unforgettable and invaluable experiences for them at this young age. Again, these are ways of scout learning, we are inspiring them to learn in different ways. Happy Scouting!
