Scouts Adopt-a-Family for Christmas

Each year Adopt-a-Family for Christmas partners with a Melbourne based organisation who provides a range of services to Victorians experiencing housing crisis or homelessness. Many of the families they have supported have been women and children, fleeing from domestic violence. The aim of Adopt-A-Family for Christmas is to provide these families with a sense of the "magic" spirit and hope at what should be a joyous time....Christmas. To do this, local families and groups donate gifts, food and essentials to a nominated family, which is then hand delivered by their support worker. Our Scout group was fortunate to Adopt a family of 5; Mum, Dad and 3 children aged 9 years to 3 months old. The Scouts donated gifts from the family's wish list, along with items of need. The Scouts reflected upon what it might be like to be homeless, the situations that arise for people to become homeless and other ways in which they may be able to help the homeless.
