Scouting for Peaceful Election in Kenya

Description Scouting for Peaceful Elections in Kenya (SPEK) is a project of Messengers of Peace (MoP) Kenya Network. It aims to engage young people in Scouting in actions that fight tribalism, promote peace and alleviate human suffering before, during and after the general elections. The project shall make young people the centre of focus in spreading the message of peace alongside addressing other social, economic and humanitarian concerns that have a direct effect on peace and stability. ObjectivesThe objectives of SPEK project are to: Map out peace activities undertaken by scouts before, during and after the elections covering the period from 1st August 2012 to 8th April 2013 Recruit and register as many young people as possible onto the online messengers of peace platform Document positive actions by scouts through stories, photographs and videos Effectively use the social media to initiate discussions and disseminate peace messages to the general public Compile and publish a report “Messengers of Peace in Action” highlighting the work done by scouts in promoting peaceful elections in Kenya Expected OutcomesUpon completion, the project expects to achieve among others the following: Increased participation of scouts in the promotion of peace An improved profile of the scouting movement in Kenya with a greater and better understanding and appreciation by the public A wider and stronger MoP network in Kenya Awarding of the Messengers of Peace Kenya Heroes Award to scouts who have shown exemplary service in the work of peace
