International Peace Day
(Right to Peace)
On 21-08-2018, as instructed by the Bhutan Scouts Associations, the family of Samcholing Middle Secondary School observed the ‘International Peace Day’. The ground preparation was done a day before. Following were the activities carried out during the ground preparation;
- Buying the materials (clothes, glues and the balloons).
- Typing, cutting and pasting of the pledges on the banner.
- Cutting bamboos for the banner erection.
- Preparing the programme list.
The next morning some of the students were engaged in the SUPW while some continued the preparation. During the morning assembly, Mr Ram Kumar Rai gave a speech to begin the celebration. This was followed by the mock drill by the Disaster Management Body.
After that there was a scout gathering in the assembly ground. There were scout drills followed by different yells. In the middle of the activity, there was the peace pledges by Mrs. Dechen Dema. This was followed by yet another round of yells. This was followed by the photo sessions as displayed in the images.
The next activity was the peace march where classes X and VII walked with the banners towards the Rephey Lhakhang and classes IX and VII towards the Maling Lhakhang. As a good turn, there was a paper picking by all the scout members within the school campus and outside as well so that cleanliness exists for all times. For this, eight sacks were distributed and after the return all the papers and the plastics collected were disposed in the school pit.
Although the major lead was taken by the scout masters, all the members took an active part in the celebration. The last activity for the day was the inter-house cultural competition.
