Scout Leading the Green Revolution in Ghana

The Champions of Nature project was inspired by the urgent need to address climate change, deforestation, and environmental degradation in Ghana. With increasing threats to ecosystems and livelihoods—especially among vulnerable communities—the project aims to empower young people, particularly Scouts, to take practical, community-based action. It builds on the belief that youth can lead the way in protecting nature, promoting sustainability, and creating a cleaner, greener future for all.
The Champions for Nature project, led by the Ghana Scout Association, is currently underway with significant milestones already achieved. The initiative focuses on environmental sustainability, climate action, and community engagement through three main activities: tree planting, cash crop cultivation, and beach cleaning.
So far, the Champions of Nature project has shown that young people, when empowered and guided, can become powerful agents of environmental change. The involvement of communities has proven essential for sustaining impact, while combining practical activities with environmental education has deepened awareness and commitment. Effective execution has also highlighted the importance of strong planning, coordination, and partnerships in achieving meaningful results.
