The Sandgate Joey and Cub Packs have partnered with a local community organisation, SANDBAG, to deliver our ongoing Messengers of Peace programme. SANDBAG is an independent community organisation with a strong commitment to further social justice. The collected donations (no matter how small), from the Joey & Cub Packs, shall assist SANDBAG in running programmes which respond to people who are facing challenges in their lives such as Domestic Violence, Unemployment, Social Isolation, Disabilities, and Mental Health. This year our Joey and Cub Packs have already had very successful outcomes with the donation collection drives tied to their Scouting activities. The Bike Hike and Swim they collected tins of food. Canoe Day collection was toiletries items such as shampoo, toothbrushes, and bar soap . The Cubs and Joeys anticipate in the near future further food, toiletries and gold coin collections. With donations in tow, the Cub Scouts visited SANDBAG's offices to learn more about the community organisation and community assistance programmes where they were treated to a very informative educational session by the Community Programs Manager. It was an amazing dialogue to watch as the Cub Scouts asked many questions about poverty, mental health and charitable service delivery. These activities were planned and reviewed at Pack Council with the youth members and delivered as part the Packs overall mission of personal progression within the paedagogy of the Scout Method.
