Roots of Design Thinking

The Scouts were motivated by the chance to make a real, lasting impact on their community—transforming limited urban space into a thriving green area that supports food security, environmental learning, and sustainable living. Seeing the garden grow through their own hands, solving challenges through design thinking, and knowing their work directly benefited local residents inspired them to stay committed and take pride in their contribution to a greener, healthier community.

The Scouts executed the project using design thinking and conducting three activities simultaneously: repotting, harvesting crops, and watering, pest control, and vertical gardening. Working in rotating teams, they solved problems on the spot and kept the garden thriving, making their efforts efficient, collaborative, and impactful.

The Scouts learned how to care for and sustain an urban garden, how responsible consumption supports the community, and how green spaces help the environment. They also gained practical skills in composting, harvesting, and vertical gardening, while understanding how design thinking can be used to solve real problems and improve their surroundings.
