Road Safety Campaign 2019

Since road accidents cause about 5000 deaths per annum in the State, which is considered highest in the country. The Hon'ble Supreme Court has been monitoring the cases of road accidents and issued a number of directives to reduce the number. It is in this context that the forum has taken upon itself the task of spreading road safety awareness amongst the citizens of Bhubaneswar as a first step.

The Campaign was flagged off by Dr. R.P. Sharma, IPS, Director General of Police, Odisha on 9th March, 2019. About 100 Rovers & Rangers of Bharat Scouts & Guides Unit of Bargaon ITI have volunteered to conduct a month long campaign in Bhubaneswar beginning 1st March, 2019. The programme has so far covered major traffic junctions and public places such as Indira Gandhi Park, Buddhajayanti Park, Gandhi Park etc. where the Rovers/Rangers performed various acts to promote road safety awareness for about an hour. The Rovers/Rangers have also had interaction with students of various educational institutions in the city, the officers and trainees of the Traffic Training School, neighborhood associations and performed skits connected with the subject as part of the campaign. The Rovers/Rangers of Bargaon ITI had also an interaction session with about 1000 Scouts & Guides from across the state in the State Headquareters of the Bharat Scouts & Guides and performed various acts related to the subject.

This month long campaign, which was greatly successful in bringing about awareness on road safety, was organised with the wholehearted support rendered to the Bargaon ITI by the Commissionerate of Police, Bhubaneswar, the Traffic Personnel, Heads of various Schools and Educational Institutions and above all the neighborhood associations. The State Chief Commissioner of Bharat Scouts & Guides, Bhubaneswar gave immense support and guidance in organizing the campaign.

The valedictory function of the campaign was held in the IDCOL Auditorium on 31st March, 2019 at 12.00 noon. Justice Laxmikanta Mohapatra, Former Chief Justice of Manipur High Court has kindly consented as the Chief Guest on the occasion.
