Project Association "Azul Wasi"

Eight Rover Scouts from Lima, capital of Peru, traveled to Cuzco, a city located in the highlands, over 1100 km away from home and 4000 m.a.m.s.l., to accomplish a goal: helping and making others happy. In this case, we had the opportunity to visit a little town called Oropesa, which is located 1 hour away from downtown Cuzco. Here, we contacted "Azul Wasi", a shelter for children and teenagers that were abandoned and put in a high risk situation. This shelter provides them a home and satisfies all their basic needs, also supporting them in their studies. There were fifteen boys from the ages of 6 to 18, they all call each other " brother", and "dad" to Mr. Alcides Jordan, a former scout, who along with her wife Alicia had the amazing idea and big heart to create this place eleven years ago. We had four important tasks to accomplish with, so to do it right we invited our local rover scouts brothers. Now we were a big group, that way we were able to clean and paint all the cabins of the place, repair the roof of some cabins and rooms, clean and prepare the new orchard, and of course prepare a surprise party for not only the boys, but to all the people who work there as the cook, two volunteer tutors and some others. It took three days to finish with all the stuff we had to do, and we did it! Even when it was raining, too hot and sunny or cold. We all were really glad to met all these people, they were amazing with us, the kids were very kind and lovely. It definitely was an experience that we'll never ever forget and inspires us to continue with our scout labor.
