PLASTIC BOTTLES FOOT STOOLS.

Soft drinks are consumed on daily basis by human beings. Plastic bottles are used to package this beverage and after the comodity has been used up the plastic bottles are dumped in dumpsites and some burnt. This plastic bottles are menance to many towns and Kisii town was not an exceptional. Kisii town is located in the Nyanza region of Kenya with thousand of peoples undertaking their daily businesses from the town. The consumption of soft drink led to accumulation of plastic bottles in the town. These bottles are non-biodegradable and such they polute the environment.

Rover scouts from Flamingo rover scouts crew led by Daudi Ndege Ngere took an initiative to teach primary school cub scouts on how to make good use of these plastic bottles. The pupils collected the bottles then sorted them the ones which can be used. After sorting cleaning is done and the bottles are arranged in a hexagonal shape. The bottles are tied around tightly to make a foot stool. The security rings for sealing the bottles are also used to make ropes by cub scouts. This project has contributed to elimination of plastic bottles around town which can be carried into rivers and preceeded to lakes such as Lake Victoria affecting the organisms living in water.
