Planting Hope Along Coast Green Roots

I was inspired by seeing our coastline losing mangroves to erosion and human activity, which threatens fish breeding and increases climate risks. As a Scout, I wanted to take action for SDG 13 and SDG 14 to protect life below water and fight climate change. I believed that planting mangroves would restore nature and inspire my community to care for the environment.
I mobilized my fellow scouts from my college and community volunteers to collect and plant mangrove seedlings along the degraded coastline. We worked with local environmental officers to identify suitable sites, prepared the area, and organized planting days with awareness sessions on climate change. The community is now helping to protect and monitor the young mangroves to ensure they grow.
Through this project I learned the importance of teamwork, community engagement, and patience in environmental conservation. I learned how mangroves protect our coast, support biodiversity, and help fight climate change. It also taught me that small actions by young people can create a big positive impact when we work together.
