Pialba Joeys Christmas Hamper

The Pialba Joey scouts were inspired by seeing the Cub scouts complete a similar project and wanted to do it themselves too. Working towards achieving their Messengers of Peace badge and Creating a better world special interest area badge they wanted to aid a local charity.
The Joeys each researched a local charity they were interested in. The children then presented to the group their charities and collectively chose one. They chose Christmas hampers for WeCare2. We went shopping for donations with our term subs, the children separated into 4 groups each with a category to shop for; food, Christmas items, toys and toiletries. We put it all in a basket and the following week presented it to a representative from the charity on opening parade.
WeCare2 advised that the items we donated will go towards their Christmas hampers, food vans for the homeless and special grocery ‘shop’ for those most vulnerable and unable to afford groceries themselves.
We learnt about all the fantastic supports our chosen charity WeCare2 provides to the vulnerable members of our community. The children learnt the value of giving back to their community and the positive feelings associated with doing a good deed for someone else.
