Peace between Community and Environment

On 21st September 2019, the scouts of Samcholing Middle Secondary School observed and celebrated the ‘International Day of Peace’.  Since it was on Saturday, it was celebrated coinciding with the ‘Grass Root Games and Sports Competition’. It was conducted from 09:00pm until 12:00pm.

Few days before the celebration, the required materials such as the cloth pieces and the glues were bought to prepare the banners including the crayons and the sketch pens. These items were used to prepare the banners. After that the wordings for the banners were typed, cut and pasted in the banners. The logo of the peace day were also drawn and pasted to embellish the banners. To raise the banners, the bamboos were cut with permission and brought and made ready. The scouts also prepared to dances to mark the celebrations.

Since it was drizzling outside, the programme was conducted inside the Multi-Purpose Hall. The sitting arrangements for the chief guest, the staffs and other visitors and the students were arranged right after the breakfast as depicted in the images attached. Mr. Sonam Tenzin, a teacher of the nearby Druk Samdrupcholing Dzong was invited as the chief guest during the celebration.

The programme became bit late upon waiting the scouts of Samcholing Primary School. The scouts of Taktse Central School Campus II also joined the celebration. By 09:40am, the programme kicked oof with the welcome speech by the scout leader, Mr. Ram Kumar Rai who also highlighted the importance of having to celebrate the event that is globally celebrated by the World Organization of the Scout Movement.

It was followed by the speech delivered by Ms. Tshering Wangmo, a student of class X who talked on the ‘Messenger of Peace’. After that the scouts of Samcholing Middle Secondary School presented the dance titled. ‘Cham Cha Ma Cham’. It was followed by the speech delivered by one of the students of Taktse Central School campus II. It was followed by a yell presented by the scouts of Taktse Central School Campus II. After that, the scouts of Samcholing Middle Secondary School performed the dance titled ‘Messenger of Peace’ which was in fact the main song to be danced to mark the celebration.

This was followed by a rap song by one of the scouts of Taktse Central School Campus II followed by another yells by the scouts of Samcholing Middle Secondary School. This was followed by the ‘Vote of Thanks’ given by the Mrs. Dechen Dema.

After that there was tea break of 20 minutes followed by the ‘Peace March’. Right after the tea, the scouts gathered at the school main gate and marched near the Maling Lhakhang. In the journey back, the scouts marched till the assembly ground where the major photo session took place which ended the celebration.

The rationale behind celebrating the ‘International Day of Peace’ is not just to fulfill the mandate of the scouting, but to mark the day and to convey important messages concerning the world at large. The theme for the 2019 was ‘CLIMATE ACTION FOR PEACE’.
