The Patrol Leaders Training Course run from 21st to 23rd of September 2013. The need for a PLTC course was to both prepare Scouts from PLTU as well as offering some formalised patrol leader training for those Scouts who would be unable, usually due to economic reasons, to attend a formal PLTU course. The course was planned for the long weekend of the 21st to 23rd September which was the start of the public school holidays. The aim of the course was to teach Scouts on basic principles of being a patrol leader such as, how to instruct skills to younger fellow Scouts, general principles of leadership and improving their personal scouting skills. These objectives were complimented by activities which reinforced the leadership principle. A total of 42 Scouts attended the course and were joined by 2 warranted adults and 4 young leader aged between 16 and 20 years old. Sponsored Scouts came from Diepsloot, Crown Gardens, Kibler and Kempton Park. Patrols were expected to operate their camp sites to high standards. For different activities that they participated in marks were awarded and entered into final mark schedule. After feedback session there was a significant improvement in camping standards and Scouts really tried to improve their marks. A theory session explaining the principles of Prepare, Explain, Show, try and test was given. Scouts took the task seriously realising that teaching and testing younger Scouts was a responsibility of a Patrol Leader.
