Pandemic Response - Visits to the Needy

With the large population affected by the pandemic, there is an need for society not only to simply distribute care packages, but actually bring warmth through engaging in conversation with this population, as well as learning their needs and challenges in the pandemic. With this in mind, this project identified needy populations and was set up to understand these people's needs.

The project included visits to ethnic minorities, street cleaners, the homeless, elderlies living alone and those who lived in iron sheet houses in Hong Kong. In each of these visits, we invited scouts and non-scouts to join in to extend our care - in addition to delivering care packages with supplies for the pandemic, our participants engaged in conversation and learnt about what other people may have experienced during the pandemic.

While the most obvious impact would be with the people who we visited, the leaders, scouts and non-scouts also benefitted from the project given the insights they gained through the sessions. It is our hope that in the future, more visits of similar nature can be held for wider exposure to the general public, and such that the voices of the minority can too be heard by more people.

This project was designed as a small step beyond the current nature of "care" activities. In the future, it will be great if the scale is expanded such that more people can extend a helping hand to those in need.
