Oplan Baklas 2022 - Post-Election Cleanup Drive

The tradition and practice of Oplan Baklas goes many years ago, where numerous volunteers clean up campaign material after an election. This practice is a good example of "bayanihan", or collective community effort that is a core Filipino characteristic. The Davao City Council, along with selected members of the Emergency Service Corps and Scouts from various institutions, conducted a post-election cleanup drive in Davao City.

Being equipped with numerous equipment and paraphernalia needed, participants from the two separate groups simultaneously conducted clearing and removal activities of the numerous types of campaign posters and material in public property. The select contingent of Emergency Service Corps cleared around Jacinto street while other Scouts cleared around their local areas

It is estimated that approximately 3000 people have benefited from the clearing operations conducted by the said project, as these people pass through these portions of the road daily and frequently. As the campaign period and election is over, the removal of these items bring about an improvement of the aesthetic appeal among communities and also bring about an improved sense of peace as an influential event in the Philippines is over.

It is important that everyone does their part in improving their own communities, and this project and its activity are one of the better-known examples of doing so. Civic engagement among the youth is also important as it also builds a sense of camaraderie, not just with his/her fellow Scouts, but also to his/her own neighbors and country as well. Lastly, it is also a sense of caring for the nature, as the proper disposal of these items can ensure a more better future for the world.
