Omakange Community Project Namibia

Omakange Community Project Namibia

A group of 31 Scouts and leaders from Forth Region in Scotland, travelled to the village of Omakange in northern Namibia to complete this project.    In 2017 Forth Region Scouts worked with the Scouts of Namibia and the local community to build a kindergarten school room, set up a community vegetabke garden and installed a borehole to service the school and garden.  In 2019 we returned to install permanent toilet and shower facilities to allow the Scouts of Namibia to continue to use part of the compound as a training and camp site.  We also carried out maintenance on the kindergarten school and installed a black board.  Working with a local expert, we introduced permaculture and bio-char techniques to the community to help them to improve the productivity of the garden whilst reducing the amount of water required.  One of our Network scouts also worked on a project to show girls at the local combined school and the local community how to produce reusable sanitary pads to combat period poverty.
