Nim She Wan Beach Cleanup 2023!

A lot of debris is washed ashore the Nim She Wan Beach every day. Left unclean, the debris, can become hazardous to people and wildlife nearby. The tide can also collect the debris and take them out to the sea again and pollute the surrounding waters. We need to help collect the debris from the beach to help maintain a clean and sustainable environment.
On 11 February 2023, the scouts, cubs and leaders of the 29th Silver Jubilee District based at Lantau of Hong Kong, spent an afternoon at the Nim She Wan Beach to pick up the debris and trash washed ashore by the tides.
The Nim She Wan Beach is near to a squatter settlement of 100 people nearby. Hikers also stop on the beach for a break. So we think our beach cleanup action had benefited about 100 to 200 users of the beach that day.
The trash and debris collected contained all kinds of waste, but a significant portion of them was made of plastics which are not naturally biodegradeable. As responsible people, we must reduce the use of plastics. We must also recycle them as much as possible so that they do not get dumped into the sea.
