Nailagobokala Primary School Introduces Scouting
I was transferred to this neighboring school as a relieving teacher for 6 weeks.
This school never had any Scouts program. Students discipline was not up to par. Introduced Scouts and ran the program for a few weeks. The overnight camp was a testing ground of the skills students learned during the few weeks.
The project was implemented in Nailagobokala Primary School. It is a remote school in the interior of Fiji.
After running the Scouts program for a few weeks, approval for an overnight camp was sought from the Ministry of Education, Head of School and School Management. The Police Force was also approached for security purposes during the camp and the Ministry of Health was also approached for First Aid resources.
The project was an eye- opening for the school as a whole. It informed all the stakeholders of the school the importance of scouting in the development of a child.
Parents were amazed in the holistic development of their children and also enlightened of the opportunities Scouting has to offer in the character development of their children.
The Head of School was intrigued by the effectiveness of the Patrol System which would help in the improvement of students' discipline in the school.
Parental support for Scouting is readily available. As Scout leaders, all we have to do is to request for it, provided the parents are thoroughly informed of the benefits of the program to the children.
