Murang'a Town Clean Up
We were inspired by the plastic waste we saw piling up in Murang'a town and blocking the drainage. With the El Niño rains approaching, we knew it could lead to flooding and pollute our land and water bodies. As Scouts, we wanted to take action ourselves and encourage the community, the county government and the media to join us. We hoped that cleaning up together would help people understand the effects of plastic pollution and how to manage waste better
We held the PTTC training and clean-up exercise, starting at Pioneer School to Murang'a town. About 250 participants aged 16 to 60 took part .Together we collected plastic waste in Murang'a town and unclogged the drainage system ahead of the El Niño rains. We worked with the county government, MUWASCO and Media Max, and the activity was covered on radio and TV, including K24, Kameme, NTV and Inooro. This helped us spread the message about plastic pollution and proper waste management
Plastic waste is a big challenge even to the county government There are few recyclers in the county.
