October 19, Boy Scout Troop 1665 of Spring, Texas came to Mission Tejas State Park near Grapeland, Texas to pitch in on the construction of some new, multi-use trails. 18 Boy Scouts and 6 leaders carried the preliminary clearing of a large portion of the planned trails. Troop 1665 put in hours of clearing brush along a portion of what will eventually be approximately 4 – 4 ½ miles of new trail. The trails should be complete and ready for use by late spring. Many of the scouts reside in Spring, The Woodlands, Conroe and Magnolia, Texas. The Mission de Tejas SP is an important historical and cultural preserve, as well as preserving an original stretch of the "Camino Real", (the route used by colonial Spain as well as for centuries prior by the indigenous peoples of the area) it houses the first Spanish Mission built present day Texas and remains an active archaeological site.
