“Messengers of Peace” Awareness Progremme at Colombo Centenary International Scout Jamboree 2014

A “Messengers of Peace” awareness programme was successfully conducted at the Colombo Centenary International Scout Jamboree held from 1st to 7th August 2014 at Ygro Camp Site, Madampe in order to celebrate the Centenary of Colombo District Scouting. The Messengers of Peace programme was a compulsory module among the other modules for the Jamboree Award. The MOP module was attempted by 2840 Scouts & Guides and they took part in 5 MOP activities in order to complete the module. The module consisted of 5 Stations which all the participants engaged in. Namely, “ALELE” Action Song, Drawing on What’s MOP mean to you?, Story Writing, Networking Game & finally a presentation on MOP & MOP registration at scout.org. The Messengers of Peace modules was conducted with the Advice of the National MOP Coordinator Mr. Damien Silva & International Commissioner /Head of JET Mr. Janaprith Fernando along with the guidance of 4 MOP Resource Personnel Mr. Madhusudan Avala from India, Mr. Uzair Kamal from APR/WOSM, Ms. Venny Indri Christiyanti from Indonesia and Mr. Maohaid Faizal aka Abang Bob Seluar Kotak from Singapore. The whole project was led by Rover M. Nazeef Farook of Sri Lanka with the Support of 32 International Service Team members from India, France, Bangladesh as well as local Scouts & Guides. The MOP module took place on four days of the Jamboree from 3rd to 6th August 2014 and an awareness programme for Assistant District Commissioners representing all districts of Sri Lanka was also held parallely on 03rd August 2014 with 25 participants. Further, a Community Service Project was conducted on 6th August 2014 at St. Anne’s College and the MOP IST Team was able to perform the MOP Dance at the Closing Ceremony of the Jamboree, which touched the hearts of all Jamborites present.
