Medical evacuation during poor road condition.
Health is very important and health facilities should be given utmost importance. Due to heavy downpour the community road connecting to the highway which is the only road to our city hospital has been damaged. Therefore we had to carry two serious patients to the nearest highway so that they can receive immediate health care services from the city hospital.
As we received heavy downpour continuously for several days the road which connects to the highway was damaged in seven different locations. So we had to carry two patients who were having serious medical condition till the highway which takes four hours on foot.
We improvised stretchers and took turn to carry them in groups and successfully reached them to the highway where an ambulance was waiting for them.
The project was implemented in the remote corner of Bhutan known as Gomdar. There is a Basic Health Unit center in Gomdar which caters to diverse patients. However when the patients are serious, they are referred to the city hospital which is located three hours away by drive.
Due to our service family members and relatives of the two patients were very happy.
By rendering such service, I could gain experience on coordinating such event. Among various community services such kind of service was a first time experience for me so I gained lot of skills and experience related with medical evacuation.
