Lone Scouts Clean Trails for Persons with Disabilities/Handicaps
As a "family unit", we refer to our BSA entity as "Lone Scout 13"-- Lone Scouts, for Special Needs Scouts, and 13 = "1 Dad/Adult Leader + 3 Kids/Youth Scouts. For our Messengers of Peace award/project, we opted to clean hiking trails designated for persons with disabilities and/or handicapping conditions. Also, we cleaned the public picnic area of trash. Additionally, the cabin, outdoor activities, dock areas where we camped (adults in the cabin, youth in tents) for the week.
As we are not a "numerals" unit (no computer generated pack or troop numbers), we wear the Lone Scout patch. Also, we must perform all transactions in person at out local BSA Council since we have no numerals for the computer to recognize. At events, we use "Lone Scout 13" to identify ourselves amongst the attending packs and troops.
We have two chartering/sponsoring organizations. The first is a not-for-profit organization known as the "Two Owls Retreat Centre" and the second is a privately owned business --Street Smartz Chiropractic and Wellness Clinic in Rockford, Illinois, USA.
