Litter Less 2023 Gonubie East London
During our Cub, BP Camp held over the weekend 25 to 26 February 2023.
We as scouters and cubs undertook to do a cleanup on our very own Gonubie Beach front in East London, Eastern Cape.
Although the beach appeared to be clean, when entering the sand dunes and costal shrubs, we found it to be littered with many plastics, bottles and glass.
All our cubs attending the camp took part in picking up the litter and disposing of it in the correct manner.
We started on one end of our beach and walked slowly as a group to look for and pick up all litter lying in the bush and in the sand.
This impacted our beach in a tremendous way, as many residents as well as holiday makers use our beach each and every day.
Not ony did we improve on the beach itself, but in many ways we did our part in saving the ocean and ocean life from unwanted litter entering the waters.
Our young cubs definitely learnt that littering of any kind is not good. But most of all, because this took place at a beach, the children also learnt the importance of keeping our beaches clean, not only for our own pleasure but to save the lives of many sea creatures and fish.
