Let's fix for the planet 🌎

In Rhino Camp Refugee Settlement in the WestNile region of Uganda, access to repair shops, tools, information and lack of knowledge and skills on electronics repairs, reuse and maintenance has been a great challenge to the Refugees and the host Communities hence they often travel a distances of more than 60km in search of repair centers to fix their broken/faculty items which is costly in terms of transport, time, repair and not sustainable.

In February 2021, the organization piloted the repair café project through its small funds from member subscriptions in Eden zone rhino camp refugee settlement that attracted many people with various skills. Established a community repair Café center with a minimal solar powered system, Repair tools and spare parts which provides daily repair services, awareness on repair and reuse and E-Waste management. Above all provides refugees with training, access to repair tools and information
Reduced distance traveled by refugees. Youth empowered on fixing electronics items and management of electronic waste. Reduced environmental and human health damage by extending life of those electronic items and develop systems for reusing, repairing and recycling of electronics products Improved livelihood of Refugee s an host communities through employment
There are still many electronics items in the hands of the refugees and Host Community that need to be repaired and maintained. There is need for mass awareness and sensitization of refugees and Host Communities on repair, reuse and E-waste management. More technicians needs to be trained . Refugees and host Communities believe that Repair is only done by men hence there is need for women Inclusion in Repair Culture to break the barrier.
