K.I.D.S Foundation
Hello we are Cubs from the 1st Ballan Cub Pack.
Cubs do good turns and help other people as part of the Cub Scout Law.
One badge that we can achieve as Cubs is the Messengers of Peace Award. This award encourages Cubs to go into their local community and find a way to help those in need. As a Cub Pack we have chosen to achieve this badge together.
As a Pack we decided what we would like to do to raise money for a local charity. Some Cubs then presented ideas on local charities within our surrounding communities. As a Pack we choose to support the K.I.D.S. Foundation in Ballarat.
To help raise money for the K.I.D.S. Foundation we decided to set up a stall at the Ballan Spring Festival in 2020 where we can sell our old toys. This stall has been organised and we are currently collecting our old toys. Our leaders also challenged us to all write letters to businesses and organisations within Ballan to ask for donations as well as highlight who we are and what we are trying to achieve to help the K.I.D.S. Foundation.
The word K.I.D.S in the K.I.D.S Foundation is an acronym that stands for:-
Kids In Dangerous Situations
One thing the K.I.D.S Foundation does is help kids who have suffered burns. Some of these burns are big and may change the appearance of their body and maybe even their face. They do this by supporting the kid, the family and helping in the hospitals.
The K.I.D.S Foundation also goes to local kindergartens and teaches kids about safety. Safety in the home, kitchen, garden, roads and community helping kids stay happy, healthy and active.
Each year the K.I.D.S Foundation runs camps for kids in Victoria, Western Australia, New South Wales, Queensland and South Australia. Some of these camps are family camps where the families can go and have fun together with other families supported by the K.I.D.S Foundation.
TANGO is another acronym standing for:-
Together Achieving New Goals & Opportunities. There is a camp TANGO running this weekend at Anglesea with 20 participants and volunteers attending
As Cubs we like camping and we thought a good way to help the K.I.D.S Foundation is by raising money for kids to go on TANGO Camps. For one kid to go on a TANGO Camp it costs about $500. As a Pack we have challenged ourselves to raise $5,000 for 10 kids to go on a TANGO Camp, have lots of fun and make new friends.
Throughout each year the K.I.D.S Foundation runs charity events including a Tri–athlon, a Dive with Dr Harry, a 500km bike ride and a dine in white evening.
As you know, as Cubs we have decided to raise money through writing letters to businesses and organisations in Ballan as well as selling our toys at the Ballan Autumn Festival.
So far we have managed to raise over $2,170 and we would like to thank the Ballan Lioness Club and local people in our wonderful community for supporting our idea to help kids go on camps with the K.I.D.S Foundation.
The Great Western Hotel in Ballan is very impressed with our letters and our idea and is also currently talking to our leaders about how they can support our idea to help the K.I.D.S Foundation.
In May we will be presenting the K.I.D.S Foundation with the total amount of money we have raised. Everyone who has supported our idea will be invited to attend the presentation and we also aim to highlight this idea and all its supporters in the local media.
If there is any way you are able to support this idea and help us help the K.I.D.S Foundation, it would be wonderfully appreciated.
Thank you.
