Istana Open House Reflections

Name 3 things to improve your duty.

1 ) Serve with a Positive Attitude and with your Heart. It may be boring, dreadful and tough but with a positive thinking and constant reminder that we are here to serve (purpose), we can overcome this barrier.

2) Working in Teams No one can work alone. By working together with other leaders and the scouts, I can ensure that the objectives of this service with others is successful too.

3) Practice Calmness and Be Patience This service is a great place for me to practice calmness and patient because we are dealing with the visitors. They may want/need things (eg raincoat, umbrellas, strollers etc) that are not easily available so I ought to be patient with their demands and requests (if any).

Name 2 things learnt by you during the service and duty.

1) Being Professional I learnt how to be more professional when dealing with the visitors especially when I am a Scout Leader and ought to project the good image of the Scout Association. There could be things that I do not know so I told them that I would find out more or consult my Team Leader and get back to them as soon as possible.

2) Decision-making skills In the course of my duty on Sat 29 October, I was stationed at the entrance to the Main Building. It rained heavily at one point and I had to decide if I could allow visitors to take shelter along the verandah without compromising the security of the place. As a good embassador, together with my team, we ensured that it was carried out effectively and smoothly.

Name 1 thing that you will use from this experience in your life.

1) Confidence I learnt how to be confident when dealing with the visitors too as I am a Scout Leader with many scouts in my team. Taking this back home, I ought to use my confidence (Especially when I am the head of the house) when dealing with my own children. Showing them how I can perform a task confidently will encourage my children to be more positive when face with any difficulties.
