Invasive Species Removal

Conservation and eliminating invasive species in our community will help provide a more healthy ecosystem. Also, the land we are working on is for a city park. A much needed green space for our sprawling community.
Legion Road Property in Chapel Hill, NC. This property is largest green space in the city limits that has not been developed. It also has invasive species like Wisteria, Kudzu, bamboo, stilt grass, tree of heaven, and mimosa. We have been removing these plants and then planting native flowers, and trees in their place. Our scout troop is helping some local volunteers that want the property to be a city park and not developed.
The entire community is impacted. Keeping this property GREEN will increase our property values, provide a space for community gatherings, events and festivals as well as a safe place for a community garden, dog walk and greenway space.
The scouts not only learn about the local invasive species of plants, but they learn what it means to be an active part of the community. Most of the volunteers are retired senior citizens. When we show up they are thrilled that we an help "Haul" things and move large amounts of landscape rubbish. The scouts have fun and learn a lot about the history of our town and stories of the other volunteer's experience with scouting.
