PLs and Apls attended this four hour training session that covered modules 1 - 3 from Introduction to Leadership Skills. Module One - Troop Organisation : 1) Explained the different roles in the organisation 2) Displayed the flow of information from the different roles using a troop organisation chart 3) Played Role Balancing - Balloon Toss 4) Introduction to vision 5) How to be a good leader 6) The Scout - Led Troop i) Leadership in Scouting ii) Value of the Scout - Led Troop 7) Troop i) Brief discussion about the PLC (how does it work, why does it happen, when does it happen) ii) Game: The Yurt Circle (teaches the importance of teamwork and equal leadership) iii) Game: Willow in the Wind (to develop trust between group members) 8) Servant Leadership (Their role and importance in a Scout Troop) i) Why should Scouts be leaders ? Module Two - Tools of Trade 1) Communication 2) Planning 3) The Teaching EDGE 4) Played three games that reflected on the importance of good communication, good planning and the Teaching EDGE Module Three - Leadership and Teamwork 1) Introduction to Leadership and Teamwork i) What do we mean by 'Team' ? 2) Teams and Team Characteristics i) What makes a 'Team' of people different/stronger than simply a group of people ? ii) Game: Blindfold Walk (reflects on some of the important characteristics of a team) iii) Game: Integrity Game (reflects on the trust between members from different structures of the troop organisation) 3) Stages of Team Development i) Stages of Individual Development ii) Stages of Team Development - Using the Leading EDGE at different stages - (Forming, Storming, Norming, Performing)/ (Explain, Demonstrate, Guide, Enable) iii) Team Skill Level and Enthusiasm 4) Inclusion 5) Leadership Ethics and Values i) Scouts in Society ii) The Servant Leader and his/her duties iii) Abadieh Scout Group's Potato Game - using an apple, kiwi, oranges and potatoes, members learned that leaders come in different shapes, sizes, ethnic and religious backgrounds.
