International Day of Peace

Objectives: To encourage the scouts and non-scouts to spread compassion and kindness for all. To share the idea of peace and talk about peace in peace gathering. To emphasize the importance of planting trees and taking care of it for the betterment of our future. To build compassionate minds in young people. To create awareness on COVID-19 protocols. To assist the local health officials reach the needy patients during the time of pandemic. The preparation of this day started from 20th September where the Scouts, non-scouts and the Community Based Scouting (CBS) members were briefed through social media about the day and the events to be carried on the day. 7 Scout leaders, 17 Cheychey Scouts, 11 Nachung Scouts, 3 CBS members and 6 non-scouts participated in celebrating the International Day of Peace. The scouts and non-scouts were encouraged to carry out any of the activity mentioned below: Peace pantry of sharing (feeding the strays and helping the needy ones) Planting trees. Peace pictures with pledges. The Scout leaders and the volunteer CBS members had a Peace gathering followed by the sharing of pledges and commitments. After that, we visited the shops and had peace dialogue with the shopkeepers touching the following points: Importance of the day The on-going pandemic and our responsibilities in combating it. Waste management COVID-19 protocols. Along with the CBS members, the scout leaders and few scouts participated in peace pantry of sharing by feeding the strays. The two scout leaders accompanied the Health Official to visit a local village (about 1-2 hours walk) to attend a patient and provide health services. The activity for the day ended with mass cleaning.
