The Interamerican Leadership Training (ILT) was a 6-day course of leadership and team building skills designed to improve the skill level of young Scout leaders from throughout the Interamerican Region (IAR) of WOSM. A staff of experienced youth and adult trainers was assembled to develop and deliver a full 6-day curriculum. The training was attended by 67 participants representing 33 National Scouting Organizations (NSOs). The training was a resounding success that created a bond of friendship amongst the participants as well as the staff. The bonds made can only enhance the Scouting program throughout the region. The participants were also given the task of returning to their home Scouting organizations and leading a Messengers of Peace project in their home communities by utilizing the leadership skills they learned during the course (Planning, Setting the Example, Benefits of Working as a Team, etc.) The feedback that we have received from this training has been overwhelming. The ILT leadership has received several comments from various NSOs indicating how this training has already had a tremendous positive impact on their NSO. The bonds of friendships during this training can only help further the cause of peace and understanding within the IAR. Several of the participants stated that they felt they had made life-long friends during the course. A Facebook page for this particular training course was set up to provide a means where the group could continue to communicate with one another and post their progress on their Messengers of Peace projects as well as progress they are making in their respective Scouting organizations.
