Hope Centre Sleepout, Sleeping rough for homeless

We as Scouts enjoy building shelters and sleeping out, we also enjoy heading home afterwards for a hot shower and a good meal. What about the people who do not get the go-home option. For them, every night is a night away. It is also extremely dangerous on the streets so having discussed this we decided to take action
Having spoken to the local homeless shelter - the Hope Centre and learned about all the work they did. They suggested that we could sleep out one night to experience what it is to sleep rough and use this as a way to raise awareness of the Hope Centre. We put this into action by planning our night sleeping rough. We also publicised it on all our social media channels and set up a just giving page to try and earn £250. Having completed our night out we have raised £1160.
The 1160 plus 251.16 gift aid that we raised has been put towards the Hope centres work with the homeless. The Hope centre deal with approx. 60 rough sleepers every day, but have many more on programmes. They provide them with training and an address from which they can apply for jobs and give them the means to move themselves off the street. The money we raised will go directly to this work, whilst the publicity we generated has raised the profile of the issue with the public.
Getting the message out early was crucial The justgiving page should have been set up earlier. Three layers of cardboard insulate you from the floor!
