Helping the Visually Impaired
61 years old Ap Rinchen faced a fire accident more than a decade ago and lost his eyes and hands to the fire. He has been occupying the bed (No.#3) in ENT ward of JDWNRH for many years. He has no relatives to support him. The hospital management is kind enough to sacrifice a bed for him and providing the meals. According to Ap Rinchen, some patient’s families leaves him foods and drinks when they leave the ward. Some even leaves him some cash.
I met with this old man in July 2016 when I took my student for an eye operation and we were in the same ward. I introduced him to a group of youths who works closely with me in social service activities. These youths visit him occasionally and provides necessary help and brings him some basic needs.
During such visits, these youths met with another blind man with similar story and have been occupying the hospital bed for years. Ap Tandin is also mentally unsound beside being blind.
During my vacation I made a visit to these men and provided the services that were required.
