Hats for the Homeless

We spoke with Mr. Davis of Community Action Partners to find the best way we could help our homeless population that no other organization was already doing. Cold weather clothing is crucial to the survival of homeless people during the winter months and there often aren't enough coats or warm hats donated for the population, which results in an undocumented number of deaths each year. (due to unavailability of per capita statistics) Our goal was to collect and provide 100 hats for the homeless. The staff at Community Action Partners would be handling the direct distribution of the hats as a shelter

We coordinated between local Scouts in our area and Community Action Partners of Clarksville Montgomery County to knit, crochet, and collect winter hats for the homeless. Scouts and Leaders taking part received an explanation of how crucial it is to provide this type of clothing at this time of year to our vulnerable homeless population. Scouts were encouraged to collect hats from friends, family, and their community to be donated to CAP Clarksville Montgomery Co.c

Through spreading awareness of this project, and participation from multiple scouting units, we discovered even more ways for younger Scouts to help and provide an even larger impact.
