GYM Cameroon:Empowering Scouts through Scouts4SDGs
Driven by the need to equip young people with practical skills in leadership, sustainability and community action, Scouts of Cameroon launched Phase 2 of the Global Youth Mobilization through the Scouts for SDGs project.
Implemented in 8 regions of Cameroon, with strong engagement in Douala, Yaoundé, Garoua, Buea and Bafoussam, the project mobilized young people around peacebuilding, peer learning, climate action and social innovation.
he project used a youth-led and peer-to-peer approach. Young Scout leaders were trained during a national workshop, then replicated activities in their local groups through peace actions, Go Solar workshops and community clean-ups.
This created strong local ownership and lasting impact in their communities.
One of the key lessons learned is that young people create greater impact when they are trusted to lead and share knowledge with their peers. Integrating activities into regular Scout group programmes also strengthened participation, ownership and sustainability at community level.
