Green Scouts: Fighting Waste, Beating Snails!

This project was inspired by the growing presence of snails and waste around the school, which posed serious health and environmental risks. As the school’s health coordinator and Scout leader, I observed how these issues were affecting the cleanliness and safety of our surroundings. This sparked a strong sense of responsibility to take action. As Scouts, we were motivated by our duty to serve the community and protect nature, aligning our efforts with the values of sustainability and the SDGs.

As part of a whole-school approach (staff and students), Scouts led a clean-up drive to remove snails and waste from the school and nearby areas. From 7:30 AM to 1:30 PM, all members actively participated, using gloves and tools to clear litter and invasive snails (collected around 100kg of snails). The activity aimed to promote a cleaner, healthier environment while raising awareness on the importance of community hygiene and responsibility.

Through this project, we learned the value of teamwork, responsibility, and community service. We realized that even small actions like removing snails and waste can make a big difference in improving health and the environment. It also taught us the importance of consistency in maintaining cleanliness and how raising awareness can inspire others to take action. As Scouts, we deepened our understanding of sustainable practices and our role in contributing to the SDGs.
