Green Roof: Rooftop Gardening for Sustainability
To promote sustainable living and make the best use of urban space, I started a rooftop gardening project at my home. This initiative aims to grow fresh vegetables, fruits, and flowers, improve air quality, and inspire others in my community to utilize rooftops for green purposes. Activities Conducted: Prepared soil beds and installed pots on the rooftop, Planted seasonal vegetables, and flowers. Used organic compost to maintain plant health. Regularly watered and cared for the plants
I prepared tubs with soil, planted Malabar spinach (edible) and moss rose (decorative) on my rooftop, and watered them regularly. I also painted nearby trees to protect them from insects and give them a fresh, clean look. I took photos at every step and monitored the growth of the plants every day.
I learned how rooftop gardening helps reduce heat, purify air, and create a calm space. I gained hands-on experience in planting and caring for living things and understood how small actions can support SDG 13 (Climate Action) and SDG 15 (Life on Land). This project taught me responsibility, consistency, and how even children can contribute to a greener planet.
