Green experience in Brazil: teaching children about recycling and environmental preservation.
The project was realized in Cavalcante-GO, a city near Chapada dos Veadeiros. We visited an institution called Nosso Lar, a place where many countryside children live most of the year. There they have the minimum structure required for their development. They are between 6 and 12 years old.
On June 15th we arrived in the morning after a journey of more than 500 km (310 miles). They were very receptive, we played games and gymnastics related to the educational side. That afternoon the children were given a pedagogical work on things related to the environment, the importance of recycling, how to separate the garbage and what each color of trash means. We also manage to clean the yard in order to make it safer for children to play.
Along with this we also strongly suggested the teachers that the initiative should not end there. We advised and gave instructions for implementing sustainable practices, garbage separation with colored dumps, recycling and environmental awareness. In a community of meager resources, good ideas make a big difference, so they have been highly motivated by the initiative.
At the end of the project, the children gave a dance presentation in a joyful demonstration of gratitude for our work.
