Framil 2018

Framil 2018

Framil 2018 was a major event of The Scouting District of Southwest Finland, held in Pori between 8th and 10th of June in 2018. The main themes of the event were openness and peace education that are reflected in the program of the event. For each age section (7-22 years old) and for adults, there were their own organized program within the event. The Framil 2018 event culminated in the celebration of the solidarity project of the scouting district. The objective of the solidarity project has been to guide the scouts and guides to understand that scouting is a hobby that is open for everyone. A key part of the solidarity project has been to devise diversity within the scouts but also in the outside the scouting organization. The Messenger of Peace programme was one of the main activities of the Framil event. Framil was an excellent opportunity to spread the Messengers of Peace network in Finland. The idea was that participant had an opportunity to get a MoP pass. By participating to different activities during the event, the participants may collect points to their pass in order to get the MoP badge. In the event we had different activities which were Panel discussion, Collaboration forum, Hop on Hop off stands, Document evening and MoP-stand. Collaboration forum was held in the marketplace of Pori and it was open for all citizens of Pori. There our partners could present their work and we also had a Messengers Of Peace stand there to promote the program. There was also a communal art wall where the participants could write or draw their thoughts about peace. In the Collaboration forum there was a panel discussion about peace and conflict management. We had invited people with expertise on the topic to talk about these themes. For example Pekka Haavisto (president, European Institute of Peace) gave a keynote presentation and talked about his experiences in conflict management abroad. We had also panel discussion about how to make peace in social media. Collaboration forum gathered variety of audience and it raised discussion about peace and conflict management. Document evening was held in the local outdoor swimming pool area. We watched a document called Destination home (Tuffi films 2013) about refugee camp and their life there and about their future after that. After the document we had a little conversation with the participants and with two refugee experts. The document evening had a relaxed environment even though the subject was quite heavy. The document and the discussion afterwards was interesting and thoughtful. Hop on Hop off -stands were a bunch of take away activities you could do in the camp area during the event. The theme of the activities was global education including refugee life, stereotype and communal service. The activities were connected to the scouts of Finland own global education program and provided inspiration for future activities. One of the popular activities was to take a picture with your friend in a specific MoP instagram frame and post the picture in the social media to spread a “peace starts with me” message. MoP-stand was a tent open during the event where the participants could learn about MoP-program and about the MoP activities of the event. You could also do your own peace themed badge to your neckerchief. The MoP-stand was really popular and liked among the participants, especially the badges.
