Founder's Day: Being Active in Community Service

Founder's Day: Being Active in Community Service

After recess I always see that the tables are not clean even though we are supposed to do wipedown after recess. The cleaners have to clean up after us. Due to covid 19 there is now staggered recess. I often find food scraps on the table from groups before us and we have to clean up the mess before we sit down and eat which can be frustrating. In commemoration of the Singapore Scouts Association Founder's Day: Being Active in Community service initiative, me and the rest of the unit, together with the school’s operation manager, worked together to provide assistance to the various responsibilities that concerns the upkeep and maintenance of the school

We noticed that most of the support staff are elderl people and may have a difficult time trying to clean the whole canteen. Thus, we decided to help lessen their workload.

Me and my fellow scouts banded together to think of ideas on how to help the cleaners in our school. After some considerations we decided to help by cleaning the canteen and sweeping the hall. For the canteen, we split the work into 4 groups for 4 patrols. Each patrol was given a bucket of water and everyone was given a cloth. For the hall, some people were tasked with sweeping the hall while others mop.

this was our project plan
·        7th April : 2hr (planning and meet up with OM to discuss on the project for 10th Apr)

·         10th April: 4hr (Execution of Day 1 of service-learning activity)

·         14th April: 2hr (planning and meet up with OM to discuss on the project for 17th Apr)

·         17th April: 4hr (Execution of Day 2 of service-learning activity)

after this experience i learnt not to take thing for granted as we always relied on the school's cleaners to clean up after us.
