Mop reflection

Inspire

Explore and Research about local problems, people in action, and good practices.

I had heard that there is quite a lots of old aunties and uncles are still working outside as a cleaner or

collecting plates in the food court. And they are very tired from working for long hours and keep doing the cleaning job again and again as they need to  clean it when it’s dirty.

Learn & Decide

Identify your motivations and talents. Choose a field of action. Select useful knowledge, skills and ideas to apply.

We can help them by being a volunteer. To lighten old people’s burden in their job, we decided to help our school’s cleaner to help clean the school for them, let them work easier, and have more time to rest.

Do

Plan your actions, execute, monitor, and report.

We planned to clean the canteen and the hall for the following examinations and rearrange the pole rack at the back of the class room block.

The first day, we rearranged and cleaned the pole rack. We(panther patrol) separate the good poles and bad poles at the pole rack, the good one for firewood and hollow would be thrown away. Then shark and stingray patrol to carry the poles to tiger patrol for them to stack the poles nicely at the back. And, we(panther patrol) put the poles we are still using properly to the pole rack and swipe the dust on the floor.

The second day, people cleaning the canteen area, we have a group of people to wipe the tables and chairs in the canteen. And, another half group of people picked up rubbish at the ground level of our school. For the people cleaning the hall, we start with moving the chairs and other things at the corner and swipe the staircases, stage and the corner first. Then we have a few people to put back the chairs and other people to swipe the centre part of the hall. After that, we put all the brooms back, washed the cloth and threw away all the rubbish

I felt tired after cleaning. And, the old auntie uncle should feel more tired than me as they are older and their physical strength is weaker so doing this kind of work is definitely easier for us compared to the old auntie uncle.

I swiped the hall with my other cca mates, at first I started swiping from the lowest level of the staircase of the stage, and when I moved to higher stairs to swipe I realised that the lower stairs became dirty again, then I started from the stage to the lowest stair to swipe again.

I learned that we shouldn’t anyhow dirty the public area just because you think that there will be people cleaning it.
