Founder’s day: Being Active in Community Service
I got inspired by a news article I saw on social media. It's about a elderly woman who injured herself while cleaning in school. I felt guilty as we are the ones who should be more responsible in making sure our environment is clean. We should help them when they need it and not ignore it. The elderly is very easy to get injured like the back and knees and a lot of their tasks could be quite physical in nature. So I’ve decided to go the extra mile and make the contributions a termly one.
10th April , we gather outside the PE store and discuss on the manpower distribution and planed on what we need to do. The plan was 2 patrols will be at the pole rack sending out the poles while the other 2 patrols will be sorting out the poles by their length and conditions. I assist my patrol by stacking the poles and board according to their size and length of the poles.
11 April, we went to clean the canteen and hall. We were being separated into two groups . The first of people will be in the canteen to wipe the table and chairs and to pick up the rubbish while the other group peoples will be in the hall need to sweep and mop the floor. Me and my friends were in charge of picking up the rubbish in the canteen while the others would clean the tables and chairs.
After these two activities I know that not every job is easy and many of the cleaners are quite elderly and a lot of their tasks could be quite physical in nature. I also learnt that making the environment clean is not only the cleaners responsibility but everyone’s.
