Entrepreneurs with a difference!

As part of our South Africa National Cub Challenge we covered SDG 6, 7, 8 and 11. With SDG 8, our cubs had an option of earning their entrepreneur interest badge. And that is where is all began...
As part of a bigger project our whole cub pack decided to make home made firelighters using recycled jars, used dried tea bags, cub made labels and a little donated paraffin. They then sold these to friends, family, community. The result past our expectations!
The cubs voted on which organization would benefit from the profits made. They decided on animal welfare. They did so well, that we split the proceeds to 3 organizations: Germiston SPCA (R8000) Edenvale SPCA (R8000) Recycle 4 Rescue (R5350) It did not quite stop there as Recycle 4 Rescue came to visit us and explained what their organization does and how recycling glass raises funds for them. The cubs took to the challenge to collect as much glass as they could!
Raising funds for an organization that the Cubs understood and loved inspired them to do well. There are a lot of people that learnt that you can recycle teabags and use them for firelighters or compost! (Community education) The cubs also learnt that there are many different ways to help the community around them
