Encouraging Social Wellness through Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts Day Camp

 

PROGRAM/ACTIVITY OVERVIEW:

This program aims to improve and develop the camaraderie between Scouts of the Marikina Science High School by means of various activities that challenge each Scout to connect with his/her brothers/sisters.

OBJECTIVES:

  1. To foster camaraderie among the Scouts.
  2. To showcase the talents and skills of the Scouts.
  3. To promote Scouting as foremost in developing the young people to become agents of change in their communities.

MECHANICS, NARRATIVE & ASSESSMENT TOOL:

            Each Scout in the campus went on a single day camp. There were various activities held to encourage social wellness.

            The Scouts were grouped randomly into several crews to maximize and challenge their social abilities.

            The Scouts had a flag making contest in which every crew was given a pole, a piece of cloth, and some paint. They were tasked to design their own flag in a specific time frame.

            The flags were judged accordingly by the outfit advisors of Marikina Science High school. The following criteria was used.

            Visual Impact (Aesthetic Appeal)                                -40%

            Relevance and Content                                               -40%

            Neatness                                                                     -20%                                                                                                                                                    100%

            The Scouts also had a team building activity called “Amazing Race” in which every crew held a race between stations where every station has a specific task for the crew to finish.

            Once the crew finishes a station’s task, they may advance to the next station. First crew to finish all station wins.

            The Scouts also held a Boodle Fight that brings each and every Scout together to foster the spirit of Scouting.

            The Scouts were also tasked to assign two representatives each crew to participate in a pageant.

            The pageant challenged the Scouts to make use of recycled materials in order to make their representatives’ costumes. They were tasked to do these costumes in a specific time frame.

            The contest proper was split into the following portions:

                        -Catwalk Modelling

                        -Talent Portion

                        -Question and Answer Portion

            The contestants were judged accordingly by the outfit advisors of Marikina Science High school. The following criteria was used.

            Visual Appeal of the Costume                                     -15%

            Catwalk Modelling                                                      -25 %

            Talent Portion                                                             -25%

            Question and Answer Portion                                     -25%
